WHAT TO WEAR

“All I can tell you about fashion and style is this: buy and wear what makes you happy.”

Figuring out what to wear to your senior portraits requires some major thought. After all, those pictures are immortalized forever and ever. Not only that, but your peers will see them and I can pretty much promise that your parents and grandparents will have a copy in their house somewhere.

So here are a few tips to consider when choosing your session day outfits:

  1. Don’t stray far from your personal style. Make sure the outfits you wear are something you’d wear in your everyday life. Be comfortable in the outfit.

  2. Accessorize. For men that includes cuff links, hats, belt buckles, shoes, and scarves. For women that means jewelry, sunglasses, shoes, and belts. You may also choose to incorporate something important to you in your session - a guitar, a football, some medals, or even your dog!

  3. I like to recommend three outfit choices: one dressy (can be a suit or a flowy dress), one semi-casual (khaki pants, a skirt, a sundress, or nice slacks), and one casual outfit (jeans and boots, etc). This gives you three very different looks for your portraits.

  4. Give your outfits a test run. Snap photographs of yourself wearing the outfits, move around in them and make sure they’re comfortable and flattering.

  5. If you’re looking for outfit inspiration, check out what your favorite celebrities are wearing, hit up social media (Pinterest and Instagram are great!), and flip through your favorite magazines. What style are you gravitating towards?

*Some popular stores to shop at are Altar’d State, Willow House, Zara, Baltic Born, H&M, Free People and VICI. Local boutiques are also a great source - Think Landry Kate or Tyler Kingston if you’re in the North Dallas area.
